Jesus is Our ‘Second Chance’

How many millions of people have searched for the meaning of life? How many scientists, philosophers, and physicians have tried to comprehend and explain the complexities of the universe, the mind, and the human body? None of these three subjects of exploration will ever be, fully, understood by mankind because Jehovah God did not give us the ability to understand every mystery of His creation on this side of eternity.

Our Holy God did, however, breathe inspiration (truths) about Himself, His creation, His plans, His purposes, and His commandments into forty different authors. These authors penned His revelations into 66 books contained in the Bible. God’s plans for human life on this earth are unfolded from Genesis to Revelation. The Bible or God’s Word (His truth) was written over 1,600 non-consecutive years and, yet, the same theme runs throughout its entirety. The Old Testament prophetic Scriptures and New Testament witnesses state that Jesus Christ is our salvation!

Anyone who has studied the Scriptures knows that God had a predetermined plan of redemption before He created everything seen and unseen. God is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent. He knew that Adam and Eve would disobey His command in the Garden of Eden and suffer the consequences of spiritual and physical death. God warned Adam and Eve that the wages of sin is death! (Gen 3, Rom 6:23) The spiritual death was a fall from God’s Holy Spirit living inside Adam and Eve to their own human spirit with a sin nature. The spirit doesn’t die. After the fall in the garden, we all have the sin nature of Adam. But, thanks be to God, that once we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, His Holy Spirit dwells inside our hearts, once again. (John 14:25)

God had, already, planned on giving His human creation a ‘second chance’ at life eternal on earth. God had predetermined an appointed time when He would leave eternity, step into ‘time’ in a fleshly body as Jesus the Christ, and save us from our sins. He planned to take the sins of the world upon His own shoulders. The God of creation would be, horribly, tortured and die on a cross at Calvary as a substitute for each one who believes in Him. A Roman cross was known as the cruelest form of punishment and death.  Every sin committed from the beginning of time to the end of time fell upon Jesus’ shoulders. Jesus Christ paid our sin-debt in full for past, present, and future sins. Our entire sin-debt was nailed to the cross.

So, we know that the purpose of this short and temporary life is to re-establish our relationship and fellowship with Holy God through Jesus Christ! We do this by accepting  Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, reading and studying the Bible (His Word), and applying His truths to every aspect of our lives. The Holy Spirit dwells inside of each believer to teach us God’s ways, guide our walk with Christ, interpret God’s Scriptures for correct understanding, reveal our sins to us, help us with repentance and prayers, and be our moral compass. (John 14:25) Our God is not a forceful God. He gives us a ‘free will’ and choice to come to Him, to love Him, and to obey Him.

We, also, know that Satan was allowed to tempt Adam and Eve in the garden and he won that spiritual battle. Free will and false pride convinced Adam and Eve that they could be equal to God. They chose to listen to Satan and gave up eternity with God in Paradise forever. Satan’s free-will pride to take over God’s throne got him and his angelic followers thrown out of heaven and down to earth. Satan is named the ‘father of lies’ and is the prince of the power of the air. Satan rules this world. (John 8:44, Eph 2:2) However, God has him on a short leash. He is running rampant on earth to tempt us during our second chance. Yes, we are in constant spiritual warfare! This is all part of God’s plan so that our faith is tested, is strengthened, and we can see the full measure of our belief in Jesus Christ. Testing is not for God; he already knows everything about us. Testing is for us to see the growth and steadfastness of our faith and love for Jesus. Satan, constantly, harasses us to sin. But, God in His infinite wisdom has given each follower of Jesus Christ His Holy Spirit to conquer any and all of Satan’s temptations. (1 John 4:4) Satan’s game plan is to take as many souls as he can to eternal hell with himself and his demonic angels.

Wherever you are in this life or however you are living your life, give thought and priority to your eternal future while it is still called ‘today’. (Heb 3:12-13) Your eternal destiny is the most important decision you will ever make on this earth. This entire world, with its materialistic pleasures, is passing away and will come to an abrupt end during God’s judgment and wrath upon the earth. (Rev 14:10) The Lord Jesus told us that if He hadn’t shortened the days, no life would be left. (Mat 24:22) The book of Matthew and Revelation state that the present heaven and earth will pass away. (Mat 24:35, Rev 20:11) God has prepared a new heaven and a new earth for all of His children. (Rev 21)

God has revealed to us the purpose of this short life; Jesus, our second chance. It’s time to get sober about this short life span and turn to Jesus Christ, our eternal Lord and Savior. This life is our ‘last chance’!

Blessings in His unlimited grace,
