Is God Listening?

Believers in our Lord Jesus Christ sometimes feel that God is not listening, and that they must have done something wrong to make the Lord angry. Others may think that He has, temporarily, left them as a punishment for their sin(s). These things are simply not true. Thoughts or feelings like these are ‘satanic taunts’ from Satan’s negative tape recorder that he likes us to play in our hearts and minds; over and over again. This is the spiritual warfare that is taking place all around us, and is revealed and explained in the Scriptures.

First, according to Scripture, God loves His children, unconditionally. Secondly, His children cannot do or say anything that will convince Him to leave us on our own. Scripture is clear that the Lord will never leave us nor forsake us. (Read Hebrews 13:5) Besides, God, already, knows all of our thoughts and actions before they enter our minds or take place. Being omniscient (all-knowing), omnipotent (all-powerful), and omnipresent (all-present), God knew what all of mankind would think, heard what all of mankind would say,  and saw what all of mankind would do, and He saved us anyway because He is love!

So, what is this silence that we experience at times? Could it be that God is testing us? Are we experiencing a trial or discipline from our heavenly Father? Keep in mind, that when He does allow these things to happen, it’s not for His sake because He, already, knows the outcome. All testing or discipline that takes place in our lives is for our own sake so that we can measure our proven confidence, strength, and steadfastness in Jesus Christ and remedy wherever or whenever we fall short or fail.

Remember also, that God is sometimes silent to our prayers because we are not in His will for our life. In effect, His silence is our answer! We need to realize, accept , confess, and pray that His will be done. Read what He says in Jeremiah 29:11 …

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Throughout the Scriptures, God shows us that our fellowship with Him can become broken due to, daily, sin in our lives that hasn’t been acknowledged or reconciled to Him. God is not angry, He has not left us, and He is listening! His Holy Spirit is grieved, but He is still dwelling inside of our hearts and minds. Remember, “greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world”. 1 John 4:4  So, each day we need to ask the Holy Spirit to bring to mind any and all sins for repentance. This, daily, reconciliation will restore us into a blessed fellowship with our Holy Creator, Lord, and Savior.

Blessings in His unlimited grace,
