Parts of Matthew chapter 24, the book of Daniel, and the book of Revelation speak about a one world political government, one world religion, and a one world leader who will dominate the globe. This world leader is called the antichrist or beast in the bible. ‘Mystery Babylon’ is the metaphorical name of this new world order.
As mentioned in an earlier blog, believers in Jesus Christ are promised that we will be kept from the hour (period) of trial in Revelation 3:10. This hour of trial will be God’s measured cup of wrath poured out in full strength upon the earth in final judgment of His creation. The bible speaks of (7) seals, (7) trumpets, and (7) bowls of God’s wrath. These three prophetic sets of His perfect judgment are integrated in degrees of intensity. His angels or messengers will be called, by Him, to administer their assigned portions upon the earth. In my next blog called ‘Biblical End Times Part (2)’, I will discuss each of the seals, trumpets, and bowls of wrath to come. It’s important for us to be aware of the ‘antichrist and false prophet’ who will come into power before God’s final judgment. This blog focuses on the prophecies of the antichrist and his, worldly, roles. For those of us who read the book of Revelation, there is a promised blessing in 1:3 … Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near. So let’s begin.
Believers know that God’s Holy Trinity consists of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Satan, the father of lies, tries to copy everything holy and good into a subtle form of underlying unholiness and evil. In this case, Satan will concoct the ‘unholy’ trinity that consists of himself, the antichrist, and the false prophet. The antichrist or beast will emerge as a global leader of a revamped Roman empire, and Satan will give the beast his power and authority to dominate the world. In the first 3 1/2 years of the antichrist’s reign, he will emerge with a facade as a man of peace, and convince the unbelieving world to be their world leader. He will impress the unbelievers with his false signs and wonders that includes a supposed mortal wound and restoration back to life. In the middle of his reign, he will turn on Israel and all God’s elect, (left behind-not raptured) who have not, yet, accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior (based upon the pre-tribulation theory). He will destroy the third temple in Jerusalem (yet to be built) and set himself up inside this temple as a god to the people. This is known as the ‘abomination of desolation’. People won’t be able to buy and sell anything unless they accept his mark of 666 which will be administered and enforced by his government.
Without disrupting the context of the prophetic Scriptural verses that teach us about these events, I have pulled certain verses out to expound on the subject points that are being discussed. When the bible speaks of a ‘little horn’, it is the antichrist’s beginning as a small power that will grow, exceedingly, great and overcome anyone or anything in his path. We, also, know that God is in control of His creation and allows all of this to happen for His purposes and His plans!
In the book of Daniel, Daniel is given visions of a new world order and global leader. This vision is called ‘The vision of the evenings and mornings’. The vision begins the last 3 1/2 years of the ‘great tribulation’ when the antichrist turns against Israel in the middle of his reign and desecrates the third temple (yet to be built). Prior to this, Daniel is given prophecies and explanations, by Gabriel, of empires who would oppress Israel beginning with Media-Persia, then Greece. Keep in mind that prophecies can be past, present, and/or future. We know from history that Rome was the next oppressor of Israel, after Greece. Since then there have been no more global leaders. However, in Daniel’s prophecy, the next oppressor, after Greece, is unlike any before them. This prophecy is a future Roman global empire and the evil antichrist will rule this new world order with Satan’s power and authority. Gabriel tells Daniel to keep this vision secret and it pertains to many days in the future. Daniel became exhausted and sick for many days after seeing this last vision.
After Alexander the Great died at a young age, Greece was broken into four parts and ruled by his four generals. The next verse of Scripture indicates, to me, that the antichrist’s genealogy originates from (General Seleucus), one of history’s four powers of Greece; who will arise from the West (Rome), and have the power of Satan. Dan 8:9-10 Out of one of them came forth a rather small horn which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the Beautiful Land (Israel). It grew up to the host of heaven and caused some of the host and some of the stars to fall to the earth, and it trampled them down. It even magnified itself to be equal with the Commander of the host; and it removed the regular sacrifice from Him, and the place of His sanctuary was thrown down.
Dan 7:7-8 After this I kept looking in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrifying and extremely strong; and it had large iron teeth. It devoured and crushed and trampled down the remainder with its feet; and it was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns.“While I was contemplating the horns, behold, another horn, a little one, came up among them, and three of the first horns were pulled out by the roots before it; and behold, this horn possessed eyes like the eyes of a man and a mouth uttering great boasts. The antichrist, whose roots began in Greece, kills three of his Roman associates as he rises to power within the revamped Roman empire.
Dan 11:30-31 “For ships of Kittim will come against him; therefore he will be disheartened and will return and become enraged at the holy covenant and take action; so he will come back and show regard for those who forsake the holy covenant. Forces from him will arise, desecrate the sanctuary fortress, and do away with the regular sacrifice. And they will set up the abomination of desolation … The ‘Kittim’ (or ‘west’) of Daniel’s time was Rome. The ships of Kittim oppose the antichrist for his arrogance.
Dan 7:11 Then I kept looking because of the sound of the boastful words which the horn was speaking; I kept looking until the beast was slain, and its body was destroyed and given to the burning fire. The antichrist will be the very first to be thrown into the lake of fire.
Dan 7:19-21 Then I desired to know the exact meaning of the fourth beast, which was different from all the others, exceedingly dreadful, with its teeth of iron and its claws of bronze, and which devoured, crushed and trampled down the remainder with its feet, and the meaning of the ten horns that were on its head and the other horn which came up, and before which three of them fell, namely, that horn which had eyes and a mouth uttering great boasts and which was larger in appearance than its associates. “I kept looking, and that horn was waging war with the saints and overpowering them …
Mat 24:15, 21-22 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination of desolation,’ described by the prophet Daniel (let the reader understand), … For at that time there will be great tribulation, unmatched from the beginning of the world until now, and never to be seen again … If those days had not been cut short, nobody would be saved. But for the sake of the elect, those days will be shortened.
Rev 13:1-4 Then I saw a beast with ten horns and seven heads rising out of the sea. There were ten royal crowns on its horns and blasphemous names on its heads. The beast I saw was like a leopard, with the feet of a bear and the mouth of a lion. And the dragon gave the beast his power and throne and great authority. One of the heads of the beast appeared to be fatally wounded. But the mortal wound was healed, and the whole world was astonished and followed the beast. They worshiped the dragon who had given authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast, and who can wage war against it?” The antichrist comes by sea from Rome to Israel. There are (10) horns or powers with crowns representing kings who will oppress Israel in this vision. The beast will slay (3) of his Roman associates (see Dan 7:19-21 above) which leaves (7) kings who oppress Israel explained in the next paragraph.
Rev 17:9-11 This calls for a mind with wisdom: the seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman is seated; they are also seven kings, five of whom have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come, and when he does come he must remain only a little while. As for the beast that was and is not, it is an eighth but it belongs to the seven, and it goes to destruction. There have been six oppressors over Israel: Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome. Revelation was written during the Roman empire. So to understand the Scripture above, (5) kings who ruled Egypt through Greece have fallen, Rome is, and revised Rome has not yet come. The seventh oppressor or king will be the beast, who, supposedly, dies of a mortal wound and comes back to life. He will, again, be the 8th king of the 7th revised Roman Empire. The seated adulteress woman is a symbol for the blasphemous false world religion supported by the world political government of the beast. Ultimately, the beast and false prophet will be the first thrown into the lake of fire.
Rev 13:11-14 Then I saw another beast rising out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb and it spoke like a dragon. It exercises all the authority of the first beast in its presence, and makes the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose mortal wound was healed. It performs great signs, even making fire come down from heaven to earth in front of people, and by the signs that it is allowed to work in the presence of the beast it deceives those who dwell on earth, telling them to make an image for the beast that was wounded by the sword and yet lived. I have started to wonder if the beast and false prophet could, possibly, be the same person with two different dominant roles or powers (two horns) in his global kingdom. One role will be as king of the world political government, and the other role will be as religious head of a large established false world religion. I base this on the fact that the bible tells us the false prophet can do ‘nothing’ without being in the presence of the beast, and he exercises all the authority of the beast in his presence. He, also, is described as having two personalities; one is a facade of innocence and the other is the total darkness and evil of Satan (the dragon). The beginning of the verse states that the false prophet rises out of the earth. He is, already, present at his headquarters. He doesn’t need to travel overseas like the antichrist. At first, I thought these verses of Scripture were speaking about the beast’s power over the false prophet. But a deeper look into Scripture leads me to believe that the beast and false prophet perhaps are one!
With thankfulness to our Father through His Son, Jesus Christ.
